🎸 Tonight (5/1), Georgia Chrome opens the City of Mesa's First Friday Concert series at Eastmark Great Park.

The Lead
Mesa's Cinco de Mayo week is busier than the calendar suggests
Cinco de Mayo lands on Monday and Mesa has more on its plate than usual. Three threads pull together: a city DUI saturation operation, a downtown small-business anniversary, and a 30-year East Valley restaurant chain timing a closing announcement to the same week.
Mesa Police's Cinco de Mayo DUI Task Force runs Monday evening across East Valley arteries, with concentrated enforcement on the corridors most readers use to get home — the 60, Power, Ellsworth, Signal Butte. The notice is the warning. If your Cinco-night plans involve driving, build a contingency now.
Across town, Mesa Business Builder @ The Studios is throwing a 'Cinco de Momentum' party Monday from 4:30 to 6:30 PM at 59 E. 1st St in downtown Mesa. Two years of small-business workspace and programming inside The Studios complex. Free entry, light food, the city's small-business team will be on the floor.
And Serrano's Mexican Restaurants, the chain founded in the East Valley 30 years ago, announced this week that it's closing one of its two Mesa locations next month. The other Mesa spot stays open. Picking Cinco de Mayo week to announce a Mexican restaurant closing is a choice. The chain's full footprint includes locations across Mesa, Chandler, and the broader Valley.
Three things make a thread, even when each is its own story. Cinco week tells you something about how Mesa's east side actually runs right now: a public-safety op, a small-business celebration, and a generational restaurant chain reading the room about which locations to keep. We'll watch which Serrano's location stays open.
